The study “The Cultural Vitality of Romania’s Towns and Cities – 2010″ aimed at analysing the cultural potential at local level.
The study is based on official statistics provided by the National Institute of Statistics, the Ministry of Finances, the Registry of Commerce, the Ministry of Justice etc. The analysis included 46 cities – county residences and towns with over 50,000 inhabitants (except for Bucharest), and the data were statistically weighted to the number of inhabitants.
The cultural vitality index was built on six sub-indices: cultural infrastructure, specialised human resources, budget expenses for culture, participation in cultural activities, situation of the creative economy and the non-profit sector. In the urban cultural vitality top five cities there are: Cluj-Napoca, Sibiu, Sfântu Gheorghe, Timişoara and Alba Iulia.
