Data on the Cultural and Tourist Potential of the Localities in Romania [2006]
2006

Description
The study on the cultural potential of Romania’s localities aimed for the evaluation of this aspect, by calculating the score of each locality, based on the INCDT suggestions.
The four categories of the cultural sector were considered: historical monuments of national interest, museums and public collections, folk art and tradition and concert and performance institutions.
The contribution of the Centre for Studies and Research in the Field of Culture in this study – made in cooperation with several public institutions – was, besides the calculation of this score, the construction of a database after gathering the information received from the Ministry of Culture and Cults, as well as the drawing-up of maps describing the distribution of anthropic and tourist resources, of folk art and traditions, of the technical infrastructure, of the specific tourist infrastructure and of the tourism-development potential.
The results showed that the most developed area in terms of anthropic resources was Baia Mare, while from the viewpoint of the folk art and traditions, the areas of Suceava and Neamţ were the most developed. The tourist resources index shows a large spreading of the areas with potential, except for the development regions South and South-West. Furthermore, the areas with a low tourist potential are situated in the regions South, South-West and part of the North-East.
