June 30th 2022
National Library of Romania (22, Unirii Blvd., Sector 3, Bucharest)
Description
On June 30th 2022, the National Institute for Cultural Research and Training (INCFC) hosted in Bucharest the International Cultural Policies Conference on Culture & Cultural Policies in Times of Crisis. Effects, Roles, Transition?, initiated by the Compendium of Cultural Policies & Trends. The conference took place at the main partner’s venue: the National Library of Romania.
The participants and speakers of this prestigious event were experts in cultural policies and strategies from most European countries, members of the Compendium of Cultural Policies & Trends Association, official guests from the Romanian Presidential Administration, the Ministry of Culture, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and institutions and organisations that are active in the cultural sphere in Romania, as well as representatives of the press.
The aim of the Compendium of Cultural Policies & Trends Association is to generate and review public policy standards in areas of interest to governments and society by providing statistics, resources or models of good practice. Initially a Council of Europe programme, the Compendium has evolved since 2018 into a multi-stakeholder association, offering unique information and monitoring services through an online platform. The Association’s area of expertise is constantly expanding by addressing emerging cultural policy challenges, debates and priorities.
Hosting this international event in Romania, including all the main experts in cultural strategies and policies from all over Europe, was an extraordinary opportunity to mark a solid presence for Romania on the map of international cultural policies and to promote the new approach related to the elaboration of the Sectoral Strategy for Culture 2023-2030.
Conference THEME: Culture & Cultural Policies in times of crisis. Effects, roles, transition?
- In times of crises generated by the war in the Ukraine and its humanitarian crisis, the impact of Covid-19 and the climate crisis, we believe that it is incumbent on all of us to look more closely at how the cultural sector and cultural policy is dealing with this situation or how it should be dealt with.
- On one side to analyse how the cultural sector and cultural policies are affected by these crises, on the other side to identify the roles and importance the cultural sector and cultural policies can play and finally to have an outlook on existing or potential cultural policy strategies and programmes that face these challenging crises.
- Further information can be found in the Agenda of the Conference.
* The conference was held in English without simultaneous translation.
