Romanian Journal of Museums – Volume 1/2021 – Museum Institutions during the COVID-19 Crisis (Part II)
2021
In 2021, the Covid-19 pandemic continued to affect all cultural institutions indiscriminately. However, in Romania, public opinion was left with the impression that the most severely affected cultural actors were those in the private sector, as well as performing arts and concert institutions more broadly. Museums did not receive the same level of media attention.
In this exceptionally difficult context, as humanity strives to overcome the pandemic, museums around the world, including those in Romania, are seeking to recover and reinvent themselves. This is an extremely challenging task. The present issue of the Romanian Journal of Museums is devoted to this subject. Other topics addressed include the ways in which museums responded to the pandemic, the restitution of museum buildings and collections, and the anniversary of the regional conservation and restoration laboratories in museums. The authors’ perspective is not particularly optimistic.
