Description

The Bucharest Municipality Museum, in partnership with the National Institute for Cultural Research and Training, organized on Thursday, November 24th, 2022, a non-formal meeting, entitled “the Museum and its Communities”. The event is part of the annual series of Cultural Marketing Conferences, 9th edition, and took place at Filipescu-Cesianu House (Calea Victoriei no. 151), between 10:30 and 16:00.

Taking in consideration that museums have become more than public cultural institutions that collect, preserve, research, restore and expose heritage, we set out to investigate the role they play in the communities they represent. In order to offer varied experiences, starting from the needs, interests and expectations of our audience, we want to get to know better the communities that the museum can be a valuable resource for.

This year’s theme occasioned a dialogue between marketing & museum education specialists and high school & university students, who will be the youth communities’ spokespersons, in order to discover to what extent museums can become representative spaces for them. The purpose of the meeting was to facilitate an action-oriented dialogue in which participants share the questions, ideas or projects they are concerned about, to debate them with other specialists and to identify possible solutions. The structure of the conference included two rounds of open discussions and a ProAction Café, aiming to capitalize on the professional experience and knowledge of the participants in creative conversations, with feedback and action orientation.

Thus, we created an open space, oriented toward the exchange of perspectives and joint action, for the two categories of participants at the conference, on the one hand, representatives from the museum sector and independent specialists working in museums, on the other hand, representatives from the communities (high school students and university students).
