The study on the cultural vitality of Romania’s towns and cities in 2008 is a follow-up of a similar analysis carried out in 2007. It aims at obtaining a complete image of the cultural vitality, from the viewpoint of the possibilities of access to cultural goods, of artistic creation and entrepreneurial capitalisation of the products resulted from artistic activities, or of those based exclusively on the authors’ creativity. The activities of the private companies in the cultural sector and of the public cultural institutions were studied and the towns and cities with the highest potential for cultural activities stimulation were identified. An index of cultural vitality was synthesised based on statistical indicators, and the main favourable conditions that recommend the towns as places suited for cultural projects development were analysed.
