Description

This edition of the Cultural Consumption Barometer was especially dedicated to the substantiation of the programmes and projects organised on the occasion of the celebration of the Great Union Centenary, its main purpose being to provide the public decision makers an accurate image of the general population’s perceptions, needs and expectations related to this topic.

The study is based on a survey conducted by the Romanian Institute for Evaluation and Strategy, as operator, in the period 28 September – 22 November 2017, on a national sample of 1,300 persons aged above 18. In addition to the national sample we also included a supplement of 400 questionnaires for Bucharest. The theoretical error margin at the level of the entire sample was +/- 2.7% and +/- 4.3% for the capital city, at a confidence level of 95%.

We notice the lack of representativeness of the cultural dimensions of the Centenary: more than 50% of the respondents could not associate any historical or cultural representation with the Great Union Centenary. The benefits of the tangible cultural heritage, although acknowledged by experts, are acknowledged to a lower extent by the general population and by the main decision makers involved in the process of protecting, preserving and valorising this heritage. The low level of visiting heritage sites may be explained through their weak valorisation. The analysis of the role of traditions among the population led to positive results, expressed through high values of the customs and traditions in the development of the society.
